Placerville, California Speed Traps
U.S. 50 near El Dorado Road
A CHP officer will stand up on the El Dorado Road overcrossing bridge and use a radar gun on eastbound U.S. 50 traffic. Two to three patrol cars will sit in wait on the eastbound onramp, waiting for the go command and the speeding car description. Most often deployed during weekend mornings, especially during ski season.
North Shingle Road just north of Green Valley Rd
On this straight stretch of road between all the curves. CHP likes to sit in the trees along the side of the road. You can’t see their car until it’s too late.
Cold Springs Rd.
On Cold Springs Road, between Gold Trail School and Girrard Vinyards at Thompson Hill Rd, in the middle of the downgrade, I have seen Placerville Sheriffs sitting off the road on what is becoming someone’s new driveway, looking for speeders (which everybody does, coming down that hill). Limit is 50 on the downgrade, but folks frequently hit 60+.
Hwy. 49 North of Marshall Rd.
On Hwy 49 just north of Marshall Rd at Bacchi Rd., CHP like to sit behind a little berm and pick off speeders heading toward Cool.
On Highway 50 near Red Hawk exit
The CHP waits near the Red Hawk entrances and exits, waiting for speeding and drunk drivers going to and from the casino.
