Pennsylvania Turnpike Exit off Hwy. 611

Willow Grove, PennsylvaniaJan 19, 20100 Comments

Making a right off the turnpike onto Hwy. 611, there are cops sitting in the empty lot at the first light. They will pull you over for riding on the berm if you are making a right onto Mill/ Warminster Rd.

York Road near Fitzwatertown/Terwood Road

Upper Moreland police sit in adjacent parking lots along York Road between Fitzwatertown/Terwood Road and Easton Road (RT 611). The speed limit of this 4 lane highway is posted in a confusing manner. Depending on time of day and the specific stretch of highway, it is either 20 MPH or 35 MPH. 40 MPH seems natural and appropriate. You will receive a ticket for disregarding traffic signs (the speeding signs), but not for speeding specifically. This way the speedtrap generates revenue without causing the citizens points. The officer will make it appear that he is doing you a favor by not issuing a citation that can cause you to accumulate points. In reality they do this to avoid having the citizens protest as points cost a lot of money in insurance hikes. Essentually, this policy undermines the State’s point system for ensuring only safe drivers maintain a license and it would cheat the insurance companies due to bogus risk figures, if only the posted speed limit where reasonable.

For the most part, the last week of the month the local P.D. needs to meet the quota. Stops seem to be at random. The patrol cars are hidden in parking lots in the area.

Old Welsh Road btw Easton & Fitzwatertown @Crestmont Park

Device used was ROBIC(?)Was clocked for only .3 miles (3/10s) at 50 in a 35 MPH zone. Was not speeding after 3/10s of a mile! Was told by the officer that the area was being watched after complaints from neighbors and he was forced to ticket all offenders. The defined area is NOT residential, is bounded by a large shopping mall access road on one side and a park on the other. PA Statute PVC 3362-A1 fines totaled $134 with points going against my license and affecting my insurance.
