Police will sit in the parking lot of the Chapel of Ease under the live oaks. It’s a 35 mile limit from US21, through Penn Center until just after the Chapel. There’s a 45mph sign visible as you approach the chapel, but don’t accelerate beyond 35 until you are abeam it. Several of my neighbors have been ticketed for being over just a few hundred feet short of it.

Hwy patrol will park on the right shoulder, at or below the crest of the bridge. Most locals think this bridge is the autobahn speeding with an average speed of 70 (posted 55). I’ve seen too many cars pulled over so I keep my speed under 60.

Carteret St.(From USCB to Woods Bridge)

This stretch from USCB to the Woods Bridge is 25 mph–one of the only 25 mph zones around. Marked and unmarked patrol cars are hiding and writing lots of tickets through there. A shame, since many being ticketed are tourists who are spending money in our downtown area.

The speed limit is lowered from 45 to 35 4-5 miles before the construction and there is a stationary radar at the top of the hill which is even 2 miles before the construction. You can top that small grade and see the construction far off in the distance but by then you have passed the radar site and a HP stands out in the road and waves you over. This was back in 11/09.

Beaufort Police cars, including a black unmarked Ford Crown Victoria, usually sit on the side of the road or in the median and catch speeders as they come down into Lady’s Island mostly on night shifts. They also sit perpendicular at the Sea Island Pkwy/Whitehall Dr. intersection on day shifts and stop those that aren’t buckled up…
