York, South Carolina Speed Traps
Rt. 5 west, intersection of Alexander Love bypass.
York city police sit on state right of way partially hidden west of intersection in daylight hours. Highwat 5 is a "County" Pennies for Progress up grade, this is not in the City of York SC, York does not own any part of Highway 5.
The same York City police in the dark hours of night have sit in the middle lane at same location, without any lights on what so ever. This is a speed trap and a danger to traffic!
Hwy 5 near Black’s Peaches and Windy Hill Apple
Though the majority of travel on Hwy 5 is 55mph, from the stoplight where Hwy 5 turns to just past the apple orchard is 45mph. They know most people are rolling about 60, if not faster. I’m yet to figure out where they hide, but they randomly sit on this stretch any day of the week, any time. College students traveling to I-85 beware!
On two miles of four lane Highway 5 West of York
SC Highway Patrol cars and motorcycles and York County Sheriff radar cars heavily patrol the first two miles of Highway 5 West of York and outside of the York City limits. Even though this is a wide four lane highway with a 12 foot paved middle(fifth) lane, the speed limit is only 45 MPH when it obviously should be 55 MPH. Indeed, before this highway was widened from two to five lanes two years ago, the speed limit was 55.
