Athens officers have a quota: they must write 3 citations per shift, only one can be a warning, others must be charged. Somehow the department says this is not a quota. News reports 350 to 450 citations per month. If the least charge with worth $100 plus costs anyone can do the math. City budget has a line item for citation revenue. There is no arguing with these folks and they really have some good hidy-holes. Might as well stay very close to the posted limit and deny them your money. Drive to Cleveland, TN to shop.

This is an industrial area with a dump, warehouses and storage units, and some small businesses, but has a "residential" designation and a 35 mph limit. They patrol this area constantly with the radar on and try to get you going in the opposite direction. If you are stopped, the officer will not show you the radar readout – you must go to court and, of coarse, pay the fine as well as the court costs

I have observed APD 5:00-6:00am with lights off in EG Fisher library parking lot. also in the old Zesto Parking lot and at the tennis court lot. I have also seen them at Hiwassee Mental Health Parking lot and at the electric substation driveway. The library is their favorite spot.

They usually set up a "you are going (40) mph" signs that i love to fly by going 90 a few days in advance of setting up the trap but usually once every month or more.

APD will enforce speeding violators All day long! The officers, if not radaring while patroling along Decatur Pike, will usually sit at Athens Karate or somewhere near the area… due to either the darkness of the night or the rush of the day you will not recognize them.. Be very careful!
