Two local enforcement organization and the State Troopers. 3 Ways to get a Ticket. City cops are the worst as they look for suspects at every corner. Rhea County seat is in Dayton and an active town. The Good Old Boy, old time country establishment exists here. The still backward no-drinking laws are here in 2010 and forget a lunch-time drink and drive on. City cops are OK, but the County guys are real gun-ho. They have a chip on the shoulder and act like they are God’s gift to society. Drive the speed and you are OK, but they get you 5 miles over…be aware…no wiggle room.

Speed limit is 45 but changes to 55 past hill going west. The 55 mph speed sign has been removed. Going East, the change to 45 is marked. Recently, the 45mph zone was expanded West toward the hill.

When heading north on 27 into dayton you pass an 55 mph sign at the 84 lumber company Then you go 1/10 of a mile up the hill to an 45 mph sign. The Dayton police set up another 1/10 of a mile next to the cemetary on a side cut out that happens to be paved for there parking. They radar you as you come up to and before the 45 mph sign than as you pass it slowing down they stop you for speeding. They do this at least 3 times a week

In Rhea County, especially within the City of Dayton, five of us were in town on business. Within one week, three of us were ticketed. Two for speeding (one being valid), and one for falsely running a red light (the officer claims he ran the red light three lights back – or about a mile or two back, but my colleague states that he never ran a red light). I have been lucky, but I see people pulled over all of the time on U.S. Hwy 27 (also called Rhea County Highway). Once business is through, I plan never to return again.

Traveling North approaching the city limits, you’re driving the sped limit at 55. The road goes downhill whn somewhere around the Walmart it drops to 35. They get people there all the time because even at 45, the four lane road makes you think you are going slower than you are. SOuth bound traffic has ben nailed too.
