Mojave, California Speed Traps
Between Mojave Hwy. 14 off ramp and California City
CHP wait on overpasses and identify speeders and relay to CHP “rookies” (identified by wearing blue coveralls, instead of the proud beige uniform the big boys wear) in training. There are sightings of an average of 4 every afternoon, with at least a 75% capture and citing rate. Still the Nevada and Arizona speeders get worse all the time!
State Highway 58 near Tehachapi Boulevard
The area of the 58 (both east and west-bound) between the Tehachapi Blvd. exit and the intersection of 58 and California City 10 mi. marker. Patrolled heavily at times by Mojave CHP. Other times there is little or no patrol. This area is flat, mostly straight and quite easily traversed. They have gotten me twice in the last 6 months going over 90 mph. They hit me with radar/laser coming from the opposite direction. It is very tempting to go fast as well as very easy to go fast without knowing it. The intermittent heavy patrol contributes to the effectiveness of the Speed Trap. Good Luck. Be Safe. Slow Down.
State Highway 58 near State Highway 14
Mojave-Barstow Hwy 58, East bound direction. Speed limit is 65. Trap starts from Hwy 14 overpass and continues for a couple of miles. 2-3 police cruisers, ~1-2 miles apart, parked on the right side of the highway especially in areas where road declines. They don’t even hide much.
State Highway 14
The CHP trains their officers between Purdy Road and Silver Queen Road. They practice stopping motorists for any kind of violation or no violation (don’t you know we’re all criminals?).
State Highway 14
Spaced about 100 feet apart your speed has to drop from 65mph down to 35mph going over an overpass where you cant see whats on the other side going northbound. pay attention to how much you have to slow down. the speed limit signs are close together, so its easy to get pinched right as you enter Mojave city.
