US Highway 64 near Interstate 40

Be careful if you are entering or leaving Memphis on US 64 just east of the I-40 interchange! A friend was pulled over here and ticketed because she thought the speed limit was 55 (there is a "55" sign if you’re going eastbound from I-40 at Fletcher Trace). There are NO SPEED LIMIT SIGNS westbound or eastbound besides this one, leading one to believe that the limit is 55 as you’re coming into town. According to the officer, the limit is actually 45, but one would have to be clairvoyant to know it! She did get a ticket. Be careful here! Lakeland and Memphis need to get together and sign this stretch of road properly (or TDOT, for that matter).

The speed limit along Canada Road between Interstate 40 and Highway 64 has always been 45 MPH. Well, with the new part of Canada Road opening came a new speed limit (Only 35 MPH). For those of us that have been traveling this road for many years know that it’s 45 MPH so why pay attention to the speed limit signs? But wait, within an hour of the new road opening up came the new signs which brought with them the Shelby County Sheriff’s Dept to write tickets. Seems like a speed trap to me? They have been in force almost 24/7 writing tickets to those individuals who are used to 45 and haven’t paid attention to the 35. I haven’t gotten a ticket yet, but I know I will…..
