On U.S. 64 west of Lawrenceburg

Lawrenceburg, TennesseeJun 16, 20140 Comments

Traveling west on U.S. 64, from I-24 to this point, between the slow-downs in every town, the speed limit on this divided highway, with a large median, resumes to 65 mph, EXCEPT for this spot

U.S. 64 west

Lawrenceburg, TennesseeJun 16, 20140 Comments

For the first time in nearly 100 miles, the speed coming west out of town didn’t go back to 65, it went to 55, even though the road was exactly the same as all previous sections: wide divided highway with large grassy median, little traffic or side road access, almost like a freeway. There is NO REASON for a 55 mph limit there except to trap people. Was in a rental with Texas plates, would be interested to know what the percentage of out-of-staters get stopped, especially considering the number of times I was passed by faster-moving TN plates.

US Highway 43 near Hospital

Lawrenceburg, TennesseeJan 25, 20082 Comments

Approaching Lawrenceburg from the south on US Highway 43, the speed limit changes abruptly from 55 to 45 then to 35 MPH. The speed limit signs are small, and there is no clear indication of a hospital zone. Likewise, leaving Lawrenceburg heading south, the highway widens and suddenly you are in a 35 MPH zone. Even knowing the limit is posted at 35, there are not enough visual clues to "feel" a need to brake. They need more signage or a caution light if they really want to slow traffic for safety. Or is it just a trap?
