Just east of Mason in the countryside

Mason, TennesseeSep 01, 20110 Comments

Officer waits a few hundred feet east of the tiny town of Mason. Two 40 mph speed limit signs are on the side of the road approaching Mason, but are very easy to miss. This is a HUGE racket. The night I went to pay my ticket, there were about 80 other people there paying their tickets. They emphasize the ticket won’t be reported to the State and won’t go on your insurance. What a nice deal that the tiny town of Mason gets to keep all that money. What they do with it, I have no idea, since their “traffic court” is in a small, cluttered building that is basically a shack. They order you around like cattle when you come to pay your fine. If you take the chance of defending yourself in this “kangaroo court”, and you lose, your fine WILL go on your driver’s record. Double jeopardy.
The officer gave me a ticket for 11 miles over. I told him I was a court reporter after he wrote the ticket, and he rolled his eyes and said he wished he had known that earlier. He admitted my speed was endangering no one but myself. This whole operation should be shut down. Totally disgusting.

Through the city in 3 directions

They have extended the speeding zone moving the city limits out just to catch you speeding. A police department and judge with nothing to do but take money from low income people in the community and anyone that comes through. Stay away from Mason, TN

State Highway 59

Officers sit right before the sign where the speed limit increases. If you see the sign and increase speed before you get to the sign they stop you.
