Highway 287

While not a “speed trap” so much as unethical and unlawful practices of law enforcement…this location, at least on 22 July 2017 at approximately 8pm is the definition of unethical law enforcement.

I was driving south on 287 when I was stopped for doing “60 in a 50″…which also equals a $195 fine for the violation.

Unfortunately for the officer involved here, I had my dash cam on with GPS tracking and real time speed recoding. My video shows me driving between 49-51mph throughout the duration of the 50mph zone and 54-57 in the 55mph zone. All clear as can possibly be.

While I havent been to court yet to fight the citation, I wanted to post this warning in as many places as possible. Bring a retired law enforcement officer myself, I take no pleasure in writing anything negative about a law enforcement officer but also do not believe in law enforcement bringing false charges and fines against innocent individuals either.

I was pulled over and ticketed for not having a license plate on the front of my vehicle. The plate was not attached well and was lost. Yes I am guilty and deserve the ticket. However while I was on the side of Hwy 287 near Clarendon being ticketed, I saw THREE other vehicles pulled over by other patrol cars. To say that Clarendon TX and Donley County does not operate a very active and evidently profitable speed trap operation is to be blind to the evidence. I will be using I40 and avoiding Clarendon TX for my trips in the future.

After Christmas holiday (12/26/04) traffic speed trap…two state police cruisers and a state police pickup truck working both sides of the highway. I was driving 75 mph along with the traffic (70 mph limit), decided to pass a car in the lefthand lane on a decline of the hwy, radar clocked me at 79 mph and I will have to pay for defensive driving and still owe $95 to the judge! Normal ticket price is $140 with a bad mark on your driving record. First time speeding ticket,I found out the hard way. jCostly mistake, others beware.

DPS Troopers running radar. Don’t get burned because the fine s are a major source of revenue in this rural area. Deferred Adjudication costs three times the normal fine. Clarendon is between Wichita Falls and Amarillo on Highway 287 about fifty miles east of Amarillo. Be particularly careful about dusk.
