TX State Hwy 287 at Rayburn Road   Corrigan, Texas

I'm 42 and I have a massive respect for law enforcers, the concept of law, and execute safe driving to a degree that normally gets me ridiculed as being a goodie-goodie. I even on occasion will anonymously pick up a cop's tab at restaurants out of appreciation and that I abhor those with no respect for their fellow man. I've only had 4 speeding tickets in my life 2 (of course) when I was a teen with only 2 in my adult life. Both of those were issued to me in this worthless town of Corrigan, 10 years apart. I'm through with using 287 for travel between DFW and Beaumont, which I do upwards of 4 times a year. I'm taking the Interstates from now on, via Dallas to Houston on I-45. The issue is these parasitical communities relish in taking advantage of wildly-deviating speed limits in the matter of yards coupled with the pressure from motorists riding your rear to pressure you to not just stick cruising at the low. This reveals the core priority is NOT public safety, it's revenue-generation. But, for me this issue is over with because after this last ticket, I came back using the Interstate cruising a vastly-more steady 65-70 with adequate signage and found (as I long suspected) absolutely no loss to time or mileage. And, besides from now on, if I do get pulled over, it will be by a state trooper, thus I won't be supplementing bottom-feeder communities anymore. So, if you commute the same route I do, please consider going totally around as I describe. You won't be expected to look for purposefully-inadequate speed signs and if you're happy to set your cruise at an honest speed limit that alters very little for miles on end, your troubles will be over.

Highway 59 north of Houston   Corrigan, Texas

Driving back home from a family T-day in Houston with my wife and 3 year old daughter. White mini-van and a black travel pod. Cruising at the 70 mph posted speed limit when came up on 3 18 wheelers coming onto the road. One veered into my lane so I made a quick move to go around. Once around, the speed limit sign was 45 so I quickly dropped my speed. The speed changes 5 times in this little town. We were almost through town when I got pulled over. The officer said he was following me all the way which was not true. I explained the conditions and reminded him that I followed the limit to a Tee at every change in speed. He questioned me on where I worked and any warrants. I am a LT. in the USCG and work for the VA and this obviously enraged the officer. He came back after 20 minutes with a citation. He also has his spot light trained directly on my daughter. This is a very bad spot so beware. I am out of town, so they conveniently don't offer defensive driving so I have to pay.

Hwy 287 Westbound. 2 Miles from 59.   Corrigan, Texas

I once lived in this town. When I was here the speed limit was 55 till just before town. Now the 70 drops to 55 a couple mile out of town, in the middle of nowhere. There is on old convenience store (Rayburn Hills Grocery) just past the sign where they sit to pull people over. I was stopped driving 72 in a 55. Fine is $235. Asked for deferred adjudication for which the judge charges $50! I have done this before elsewhere and know others that have and have NEVER known of a place to charge for this option. Then I had to pay it electronically which was another $9. Total fine? $294 for "speeding" in the middle of nowhere! Beware.

Just entering this town from Hwy. 59 North (Houston side)   Corrigan, Texas

The speed limit suddenly droped from 70MPH to 55MPH. The police waited only approx. 200ft behind the speed limit sign. I used the GPS. When the speed limit just changed in my GPS, which took approx. 1-2 seconds after passing the sign, I already saw the police very close in front of my car. There was little time for me to reduce the speed even though I tried to do so. I bet the police was trying to measure the vehicle's speed right when it passed the speed limit sign. It is a very dirty speed trap. The fine is $235 when you are 16-20MPH over limit.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
