FM 407 and Lantana Trail   Double Oak, Texas

Approaching Lantana Trail on FM 407 from the east, you hit a stop light at the intersection. Since it is a 3 way intersection (no traffic coming from your left when you are turning right onto Lantana Trail) many people don't make a complete stop to turn right when the light is red. This intersection is under the jurisdiction of Double Oak (according to the DO police chief), and a DO police car will park on the side of FM 407 just east of the intersection. If you don't make a complete stop on red, you will be ticketed. A family member of mine received such a ticket during the day, although I have also seen the DO police car there late in the evening. So beware.

Simmons Road (Coming off of FM 407)   Double Oak, Texas

The speed limit is 30 on Simmons Road. The officers situate themselves away from the road and use their lasar guns to get residents and non-residents on the street. The have purposely kept no street lights on the road and posted 6 small speed signs. Avoid this street! In fact, avoid Double Oak, Texas at all costs!

Kings Road near Lusk Road   Double Oak, Texas

Typically the new black DO police cars set east of Lusk Road at the bottom of the hill. They write tickets for anything over 30 mph, including 31 mph. Kings Road should have a 40 mph posted limit, per TXDOT research, but it is posted at 30 mph. Double Oak has turned into a community totally dependent upon any form of traffic violations for its revenue.

Waketon Road near Chinn Chapel Road   Double Oak, Texas

Waketon in Flower Mound, TX has a 40 MPH speed limit. In Double Oak, the limit drops to 30. The DO speed limit sign is 60 feet from the intersection and is frequently blocked by stopped traffic on Chin Chapel. Drivers from FM may have less than a second to see the sign. There are no other speed limit signs on westboud Waketon.
Southbound traffic on Chin Chapel will clearly see a 40 MPH sign on the SE corner of CC and Waketon. Unfortunately, that sign is in FM with no sign that says so. Traffic turning west onto Waketon will have less than 4 seconds to see DO 30 MPH sign and may be be beyond the sign by time turn is completed.
Radar hides about on north side of Waketon and they also clock from moving vehicles. During Sept. one DO Sgt averaged one citation every 12 minute in two different 2 hour periods. DO issued 171 citations on Waketon during Sept and Oct 2006. Entire DO police force issue 174 citations in first half of 2006.

McMakin Road from Shiloh Rd to FM 407   Double Oak, Texas

The Shiloh Rd changes to McMakin Road as the road enters into the town of Double Oak. It has two nearly 90 degree turns; one right after the first curve and the other before the second curve. Between these curves, there are two 4-way stop intersections, one of which is on a deadend road (ie, minimal traffic). These stops are within 200 yards of each other in an otherwise almost uninhabited area (farms and ranchettes, few homes ar developments). No other intersections have 4-way stops. From its beginning at these curves, McMakin all of the way to FM 407 (over a mile) has been reposted to 30 mph from 40 mph (the same as between the 4-way stop intersections), which was too slow in the first place. This is an open country road with very few houses on it, but has as low a speed limit as many residential neighborhoods! It is poorly marked as well, with different speed limits. The police park in the local store's lot at the intersection of FM407 with a view of almost 3/4ths of the length of McMakin and catch people exceeding this ridiculously low speed limit. It's like driving 20 mph across a desert! They claim accidents on the stretch, but that is a bogus claim. Many other locations have more accidents than this in Double Oak and haven't been reposted. This is a cash cow.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
