Hwy 45 @ FM 879

The cops sit and radar and specifically await the visitors of the local Drive-in. These cops are looking for anything and everything to give you a ticket. Do not speed. Do not have as much as a license plate light out, or you will for sure get a ticket.

Be aware of Garrett police before you approach the underpass of FM 879 on I-45 South (right by the Exxon station and before you approach the drive-in theater on the west side). The Garrett police like to hide right under that overpass with a laser and he has quick access to get you on the highway. And if he’s not there, watch out for him just over the crest of the hill you’ll come across after the underpass; he’ll be looking for you there also.

Interstate 45 near Interstate 45

The City of Garrett has no jurisdiction whatsoever on Interstate 45. This area near the drive in theater is often worked by the Garrett cop. If stopped make sure to request documentation that this is within the departments jurisdiction and have it signed by the officer before signing the citation yourself. In fact, all of this area falls under the extended jurisdiction of the Ennis Police Department located in Ennis, TX.

There is like on cop on duty and I always see him by the railrod tracks. The speed limit is 50 MPH from the highway and then when you hit the curve, it states reduced speed. But the catch is, that the speed drops from 50 MPH to 35 MPH in a matter of literally 100 yds. Be careful when you go through there, because they will pull you over for anything.
