I-35W at MM15

Grandview is a pure and simple fee collection town using their law enforcement and a few miles of Interstate 35 as their private store. Kendleton and Patton Village went the way of the dodo bird years ago when Texas legislators got an earfull about this type of abuse and it is past time to make this place known to the legislature. Unless it has been repealed, there is a 1995 Texas law signed by then Gov Bill Clements that cities of fewer than 5,000 people can only retain traffic fines up to 30 percent of their total revenue. But over that and they are breaking the law, so it is time to look at the books. There is a 75 MPH limit most of the way from Waco to within yards of where these guys sit and laser. Got me before 6 AM with light traffic, well actually no traffic on the road, at all. I was 5 MPH over I admit, over 75 that is and had been passed by many folks in the previous 50 miles (except to slow down in Hillsboro which is a REAL town not just 2-3 miles of annexed fields) at that time as anyone who has driven Texas Interstates will understand. I support police to the hilt but these guys aren’t police, they are what Jesus got riled up over, just with a badge to boot. There is no place to something like this in Texas. Time for everyone to contact their legislator about Grandview (2010 census population 1,561). This is our state and the police work for the citizens.

I-35W North Bound mile marker 13-16

On I-35 W North and South bound between mile marker 13 and 16, be aware of the posted 65 mile per hour speed limit on this stretch of highway. Regardless if you drive below the posted speed limit, you run a good chance of being ticketed for speeding. 84 mph seems to be the popular number or $97.10 Base/6.00 per mile which equals to about $211.10. This area of the interstate is patrolled by the Grandview Police Department where the City Administrator and the Chief of Police are one in the same. The city judge and one of the council members appear to be related as well as the court clerk/coordinator and another council member. In reviewing the final city audit, the CPA firm found that they were handing out bonuses to city employees, by way of gift cards. In researching this fine up standing community, the police department’s phone number is disconnected and should the people of this fine community need any law enforcement, they need to call the Sheriff department. The city is less than 2 square miles (1.7 sq miles) and they have 5 officers to patrol 8,000 running feet of I-35 W. The city streets of Grandview I’m thinking, are patrolled by the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department after all, who’d want to ticket their own. Must be a city manager running the numbers because the city has a collection company that handles the ticket payments. Oh, yeah traffic ticket revenue is over 40% of the cities budget. I’m thinking, the ticket business must be good, after all, they surpassed their budget!!

I toned my comments down to assure they wouldn’t be removed but, I really would have loved to have gone off on these yahoos..

Northbound I-35W Grandview + 6 minutes north

Grandview, TexasApr 06, 20110 Comments

White Crown Vic on your right hand along the northbound interstate I-35W. The grass embankment between feeder and interstate is smooth enough to allow a robust car like the vic, to enter from the hillside perpendicular to the interstate. The spot is about 7 miles north of Grandview and some 3.8 miles before reaching the I-35W x Hwy 67 junction at Alvarado.

Coming off of I-35 speed goes from 30 to 55 to 40 to 30 as you get closer to town. These over-weight undereducated never will be shoot radar so far in front it is impossible to actually tell which speed zone you are in. You go 55 in the 55 they say your in the 40mph zone. Crooks with badges.
