State Highway 31 and Fritz Swanson School Zone

Kilgore, TexasMay 07, 20140 Comments

Coming from Tyler it is on the blind side of a curve. It drops from 50 to 30 with no buffer zone. The school location is 1/2 mile away and requires an additional turn after Highway 31. Red light is in place at this location already and no crosswalk crossing the highway to deem it a an official Reduced School Speed Zone according to TXDOT suggested guidelines. This particular school zone only pertains to the High School. There is another intersection at State Highway 42 and Longview St. that is only 1/10 of a mile from the high school and it has no marked School Zone??? TXDOT also suggests no need for a reduced school zone when a traffic signal is present and this is stated for directly in front of the school not 1/2 mile away. The ticket was also issued at 8:09 and TXDOT suggests that the School Zone Reduced limit should operate apx. 45 minutes from start of school until 5 minutes after classes start. Classes start at 8:00 a.m. at this high school.

State Highway 259

Usually sitting at the old drive-in entrance just before a school zone speed reduction. You should really slow down at these school zones…it could be your child that is hit by a speeding car. It’s a college town! Need I say more.

Longview St.

Kilgore, TexasJul 19, 20021 Comments

Longview St., from St. Hwy. 42 to US Hwy. 259. Speed limit is 30, which is way too slow for that very stright street and very hard to maintain. Local police wait for people breaking the speed limit, which most do.
