FM 1774 and Magnolia Drive just past Renaissance Festival

Magnolia, TexasOct 20, 20130 Comments

There is a major speed trap set up in Magnolia directed at people leaving the Renaissance Festival. The speed limit drops to 30 mph but you do not see the sign because the sign is placed BEFORE Reinfaire Road which is the entrance/exit, so when you leave, and you turn south onto FM1774 without seeing a speed limit sign, and you won’t see another speed limit sign for many miles until you see one that says reduced speed and then a sign that says 50 mph. How is that for a speed trap designated exclusively towards people visiting the Ren Fest! And also remember, if they smell alcohol on your breath, it gives them the right to test you.

Going north on Nicholsawmill there is a section that is 50 MPH. While in that same section, going south the speed limit is 40 MPH. Not only that they will stop you for the infamous "Wellfair check" and then it’s all downhill from there.

Nichols Sawmill Road between Old Hockley Road and FM1774

The 30 mph speed limit on this section of Nichols Sawmill Road (as referenced in earlier posts) was raised to 40 mph earlier this year but remains vigorously enforced. When travelling north on Nichols Sawmill start slowing as you pass Old Hockley Road as Magnolia PD often take up position in Connie Avenue to the right just after the 40 mph zone starts. They will ticket you for even a few miles per hour above the posted limit.

There is a school zone near FM 1488 and the speed limit south of the school zone, all the way to FM 2978 is just 30 mph. Very active during the early morning "rush hours".

Anywhere within the corporate limits of Magnolia, TX is a speed trap, the officers will not listen to any excuses, and if you go to court, one will lie and the other will swear to it. If you drive by the Court House on a Traffic Court evening there are usually 100’s of cars for all of the people in the court. I have personally seen people in court for 41 in a 40 on the highway, or 31 in a 30 mph school zone.
