Highway 80 between I 35 and I 10   Martindale, Texas

I am in my sixties and do not consider myself a speed violator , most of the time people pass me up on the interstate. I was surprised when the Marindale police car coming in the opposite direction pulled me over in the middle of heavy traffic. This was on a short strip of two lane highway, going downhill! The officer M. Caldwell ,as in the same county, said i was traveling 73 in a 55 Zone , I know i immediately looked at my speedometer as some as the lights on his car went on, it was a very narrow strip of highway and I saw 61mph. This officer would not respond re providing a radar report to me, I believe this defines a true speed trap. This can affect the local economy with tourist from Texas passing this route going to the hill country.

State Highway 80 near Between Martindale and San Marcos   Martindale, Texas

Cops running radar will stop you for 1 mile over speed limit( even if you are rushing to the emergency room) Martindale is well known around here for the speed traps. Traffic court is a joke. This is the road to Texas State University and they know that kids will most likely not take the time to fight a ticket. There are also issues with the radar not being calibrated but you won't get anywhere with it. ONE mile over the speed limit will get you a ticket. Count on it.

State Route 80 near State Highway 80   Martindale, Texas

Setting is rural and speed limit drops from 65 to 55 without any warning that a speed zone is ahead. Police clock you before you can reduce your speed from 65 to 55.

State Route 80 near Exit Number 206 - IH-35   Martindale, Texas

Martindale has extended their City Limits beyond the city for about 1.5 miles each direction strictly to encompass the highway before you get to town. The officers sit at the extended City boundaries and run radar in a rural sitting where the last posted sign is miles away. The nearest sign is located as you enter the town well inside of the boundaries.

Their fee is $5.00 per mile over plus $93.00 court cost. If you ask for deferred disposition they almost double the total amount. In my case the fine was $158.00 and $293.00 for deferred disposition. It's all about the money.

I work with Cops all over Texas. I know the difference between a Speed Trap and legal enforcement. Martindale has all of the indicators of a speed trap.

State Highway #80 near US Highway 80   Martindale, Texas

Policeman in approaching lane & coming at you decides you
are speeding, makes a u-turn & chases you down. You find
yourself dumbfounded because you're sure you weren't speeding. How do you go to court to dispute the findings?
Isn't the policeman always right? This happens regularly on
Highway 80 with the Martindale police. How do you contact
their town attorney to protest these unfair practices which
have been going on too long & reported by many motorists? The townspeople themselves are aware that this has been going on & have complained, but obviously nothing has been done to date. Isn't this giving the town & their police force a bad name? Don't they care? There have been a number
of similar comments on this website attesting to the shady
practices of the Martindale police. They should take heed.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
