Just After Hwy 114

The car in front of me was going 65 & wouldn’t let me pass (they were drifting between the two lanes, effectively keeping me behind them). When I saw an opening, I went around him going 77-80 (was watching my speedometer) & I get pulled over & was told I went 93. It was late and honestly I was afraid of what he’d do if I argued, so I just signed. If I knew what a speed trap this area was, I would’ve just slowed down even more than the guy in front of me had been going. Since then, I have noticed cops constantly parked in empty parking lots off the side road, waiting to catch anyone even slightly speeding on 35. Learned my lesson-avoid that area of the highway at all costs & people purposely go slower than the limit in that area-probably the best thing to do.

I drive through this intersection everyday at least twice. There are always at least two NLPD cars lurking in the area – I’ve see as many as four. Usually some one is being pulled over. What really makes this sad is that there really is no Town of Nortlake per se. No stores, no restaurant, no businesses. The only town assets seem to be a fleet of police cruisers and a prefab double wide police station located several miles away down a lonely rural road. How can this be legal?

I commute to school and take this road daily, and I see the Northlake PD with people on the side of the road daily. I personally have been pulled over twice and ticketed twice by them. Once was at night I was given SIX citations! I was ticketed for speeds beyond reason (8 miles over…), tailgating, failure to signal, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle (I pulled to the left instead of the right…I was 17 at the time and this was the first time i had been pulled over!), expired insurance (even though in the time he went to write the ticket and the time he came back I had found my most recent card), and WINDOW TINT VIOLATION! apparently my back window, which came with my truck, was too dark. It was ridiculous. I couldn’t believe a cop gave a 17 year old girl with no previous issues 6 tickets! I went to the courthouse, which is just a portable in the middle of no where, and the woman even thought it was ridiculous so she excused 3 and let me do defensive driving for one and defer to adjudication for one so only one ticket went to my record. But it was pricey to pay for all of it! Then i was pulled over recently for apparently not having my seat belt on, which i did, but I already knew with my previous Northlake PD experience there was no use arguing. This is a private police force and not funded municipally so they ticket EVERYTHING! be very careful on this stretch of I-35

I was heading to truck driver classes 4/2004. I saw cars as far as you can see for the speedway on the opposite side. Anyway, I passed by two police officers parked by each other. Then I looked in my rear-view mirror and the lights were gone. I told my friend that we were about to be pulled over. The cop told me that I was tail-gating. How do you measure tail-gating at night. Besides, I said that the car in front of me was well in front of me. He said sign the ticket or I can arrest after I told him that i was from Houston. I said OK to signing the ticket but he had something else in mind. He said get out and walk towards his car. He then said in a low tone voice to “turn around”, which would face me towards my car. Not even a second later he turn me back around with force and slammed me on the hood, “resisting arrest!” Like what the hell just happened?

Not only is this stretch of road a speed trap, It’s also home to the Worst PD in Texas in my honest opinion. If you drive any kind of sports car/ muscle car/ exotic or anything that looks nice. Be prepared to spend a considerable amount of time with the Northlake PD. I for one, Drive a muscle car, and Have probably been pulled over in excess of thirty times since Moving to Northlake. I’ve been pulled over for Excessive noise, Sequential tail lights, Bright Headlights, riding the left hand lane. I have also been pulled over, pulled out of my car, and told to stand in front of my garage while the officer run’s my plates (generally by the same officer) all because I supposedly have had a License plate light out. I was pulled out so fast I didn’t have time to switch the lights off, so there in plain sight, shining in all it’s glory was my License plate light, burning bright as ever. When I showed the cop he mumbled "Just get it fixed." It sounds ridiculous, I know, but It’s just what the people of Northlake Deal with everyday. Basically NEVER speed between Exit 70 and UNT/114-You will be pulled over and harassed. I’ve never had a ticket, but these guys are a thorn in everyone’s side.
