State Highway 146 near Choate Road   Shoreacres, Texas

The police sit against the fence in the median and watch the traffic light. Their favorite way to do this is when it is dark and they can hide with their lights off.

State Highway 146 near Shoreacres Boulevard   Shoreacres, Texas

For years the southbound traffic on Hwy. 146 coming out of La Porte's city limits and into Shoreacres' city limits has come around one of the best speed traps in the world. It is such a great trap that the Officer can sit in the center median and not even hide. You come around the corner and the Officer has a straight shot at you with rear radar on the back dash of his/her patrol car. For many years, the speed limit was 55mph through there, but the state raised it to 65 in about 1997 roughly. That put a dent in the ticket count, but the trap still exists regardless. To the benefit of the city and Officers, the intersection of Hwy. 146 and Shoreacres Blvd. is one of the few (if any) in Harris County that is 65 mph. That is pretty dang fast for any traffic light intersection, much less the main artery into the city. When it was 55 it was dangerous enough, but now it is really bad.
