Main Street

7 cops had people pulled over for speeding Sunday morning at 9:30. They must have been late for church. Bad Monday morning also. Protect and serve. Yeah. Right!

7800 FM423

The Colony, TexasOct 11, 20170 Comments

FM423 is a 10mile fast road where construction has recently completed in September 2017 (ref. Wikipedia). This road is now 6 to 8 lane wide. Driving south on this road for 8 miles, it is 50 to 55 MPH speed-limit, but there comes a bridge after which the speed-limit drops to 35. The signs are not well lit and easy to miss at night.
If someone miss a speed-limit sign, there is absolutely no way to otherwise imagine this 8 lane wide road to be a 35zone. There is no residential or commercial area or anything that can indicate this zone could be 35MPH zone. Even in day time 9 out of 10 vehicles don’t realize this is a slow zone because of lack of proper well indications. At night most cautious and vigilant drivers may get a speeding ticket.

Coming off the South Colony overpass to Plano Pkwy or Spring Creek, they are scouting for speeders.

Standridge Road

To avoid traffic on 121 and Main St. a lot of people are running Standridge to Ridgepoint and then to Main Street. Towards the end of every month the cops will sit and get you for running stop signs and speeding. My ticket was for 36 in a 30 heading down a hill. No car is that accurate that 6 miles over should be ever questioned. I have spoken with several cops, including one in The Colony, that have told me that unless you are running at least 10 miles over the majority of cops will never stop you.

Paige Road near State Highway 121

After turning into The Colony from Hwy 121, the road narrows to one lane in each direction for construction. The speed limit is dropped down to 25 MPH for the entire ride north. My car can do 25 without touching the gas. If there are workers anywhere on the stretch, you can get tagged for ‘workers present’ which means you can’t take defensive driving nor can you go for a deferal – it is either pay or try your luck with the judge. I was stuck behind a person who couldn’t read the street signs and stopped at every intersection (while doing 15 – 20 between each street). When they finally started a turn, I gassed it to get away from them and ran into Mr. Copper. The lights went on, and I was tagged with 36 in a 25. No real discussion from the officer, he just took my license and went back to write a ticket. Even though the workers were over 1/2 mile away, he gave me a ticket (with no fee schedule) stating workers were present and said that I could go for deferrment when I called the city. When I called the city, they said, no way, pay up or else. I would avoid that area at all costs (or pay the $258 fee).
