20 mph speed limit is very hard to maintain driving downhill without constantly tapping your brakes. Speed limit is understandable during school hours, but this is 24/7. City police and state troopers patrol this road regularly.

I-37 near Three Rivers & George West is a training ground for new Highway Patrol officers. Radar patrols and ticketing on I-37 is very agressive at all hours. About halfway between San Antonio & Corpus Christi. There is no one spot that is a trap. the entire distance of I-37 neat Three Rivers/George West is a speed trap. Ask me how I know…

When coming into Three Rivers from the South, the speed trap is set just entering town after going over a rise in the highway. You cannot see the local police car over the rise and you hardly have time to slow down after the speed limit changes from 70 to 55 to 40 in rapid succession.
Their favorite time is at dusk when you have trouble seeing the speed limit sign.
They will write you a ticket to the maxium speed and will not give you any slack. Their intent is to get maximum fines and court costs.
Travelers going to and from should take notice when entering Three Rivers.
Travelers can divert to Interstate Highway 37 and bypass Three Rivers and come out at George West, TX when travelling South.
When travelling North travellers can take Highway 59 East and intersect Interstate Highway 37 and resume travelling North.

Main Street/ Highway 281 Runs through town

Three Rivers, TexasAug 15, 20032 Comments

This area is constantly on guard. Once you hit the city, the police are in full affect. There have been times that we go through the city and there at least 4 patrol cars, all lined up in a row, waiting. (yes lined up right behind the other) They then each take turns pulling someone over. Sometimes it is more prevalent during holidays, but as a whole, we have noticed the high level of stops almost every time we go through this town.
