Be careful on highway in and out of town and all through.

Unfortunately, I have to travel through Blanding and Monticello a lot. I know better than to speed and do 5 MPH under before through and after the towns. Despite that, they will pull you over for any excuse they can make up to pull you over and harass you. Never ever stop in Blanding. I NEVER speed but have been pulled over for supposedly turning into the wrong lane from the main intersection in town. Problem is, I didn’t do what I was accused. Only reason I didn’t get a bogus ticket was because I had a witness in car. I strongly suggest you have a dash cam when driving through Blanding or Monticello. The cop was paranoid and abusive. I honestly believe that cop was intoxicated and we were potentially in danger. He used the situation to interrogate me aggressively for no cause to do his best to escalate the encounter. I didn’t take the bait and remained calm and cooperative within reason. Whatever happens, speak as little as possible and be polite. Watch more than just speed driving through there, they will pull you over for the slightest issue (real or one they made up) and will take extra steps to abuse you if you have out of state plates or if they think you are a tourist in a 4×4.

HEADING EAST OUT OF TOWN

Blanding, UtahJul 14, 20151 Comments

Driving a Ford e350 loaded down with camping gear and 5 person family. Taking our time to drive safe heading back to Ca. Completely out of residential area and heading into commercial area. An old beat up deputy vehicle swoops behind us follows us for about 1/2 mile and pulls us over for speeding. Says we were doing 38 miles in 25 zone but when i mentioned the sign ahead that states 35 mph, his reply was that is only after you pass the sign..lol..wow.. The young deputy was obviously uncomfortable and appeared to have been following standard operating guidelines. Its sad to see such a nice community with a dark cloud over it from a poorly ran local city council and police department. Go slow and don’t bother shopping or stopping in Blanding Utah, I vacation in Utah three times a year and will never drive through the cute little town again. Good luck.

State Route 191 near State Highway 191

Be careful when approaching Blanding Utah on Highway 191, state polices are prowling for vehicles with out-of-state license plates, especially if the drivers are Native American Indians, Mexicans and African Americans.

The State Highway Patrols will not cite residents because they all relatives due to a polygamy that was practiced when the town was settled.

Thus, there are many reports of incidents which reveals that State Highway Patrols are targeting minorities. This practice vindicates that State Highway Patrols are racial profiling minorties.

I strongly recommend that you drive carefully and have all your vhicles documents and driver license ready. Believe me, they will stop you even on suspicions. Good luck.
