4800 N Hill into Riverwoods from Orem Center Street

Provo, UtahJul 17, 20120 Comments

The hillside from Orem Center Street down into Provo Riverwoods (W 4800 N in Provo) has a speed limit of 35 MPH in both towns. Police appear to use handheld or other radar devices from just south of 4800 N on 420 W. Both Orem and Provo police have been seen following a speeding car into the other city’s jurisdiction. Speeding due to gravity and lack of braking heading east-bound (downhill) as well as speeding up the hill seem to be common offenses.

The don’t let you off easy if you go over 25MPH on this road. From 500 W (State St.) to University Parkway it is patrolled.

State Highway 89A near State Highway 89A

Provo, UtahDec 27, 20070 Comments

This new four-lane highway with hardly any exits or entrances has a posted speed limit of 35 mph, whereas the traffic funneling onto the new road is coming off Highway 89 on Ironton Hill which has a speed limit of 50 mph with numerous business, home and street entrances, so without a conscious effort to slow down, all the traffic is going over the speed limit. The police car is usually waiting at the midway dip on the north side, on vacant property, usually fifty or sixty feet back from the highway. You know this is a speed trap because the arresting officer never issues a speeding ticket, only the opportunity to attend one class of traffic school at a cost of $50. This way the Provo Police Department gets the entire amount instead of having to split with the court, and the lucky motorist does not get a blemish on his or her driving record. Provo City receives no complaints from its voters and taxpayers because the bulk of those arrested are residents of neighboring Springville and Mapleton, heading to Provo’s East Bay shopping area. When you go to traffic school you are crammed into a hall with literally hundreds of other motorists just as unlucky as you, and probabaly half of them got stopped at this same location.
