Alderman Road and Pratt Drive (near McCormick Road)

Charlottesville, VirginiaOct 13, 20160 Comments

Be cautious on Alderman Road when heading southbound, as it gets very hilly near McCormick Road, causing you to accelerate faster than you realize. The cops are sitting at the bottom of the hill, at Pratt Drive. The speed limit is 25mph, and cops will pull over anyone over the limit. No grace is shown towards UVA students, even though the cops here are UVA Police.

The fine is rough: over $60 in court fees, plus $6 for every mile per hour over 25.

Traveling on Route 250 near MacIntyre Park. The speed limit slows to 35mph but the traffic still moves at 45-55mph. It is in this section that cops look to pull people over. On a busy day there can be at least 2 or 3 cop cars pulling drivers over for speeding.

US 20 (9th Street, Belmont Bridge)

Charlottesville, VirginiaJul 01, 20110 Comments

Heading north into town from I-64, Rt 20 makes a right turn off of Monticello onto Avon St. As soon as you turn, there is a sign that states that this is an enhanced enforcement zone with a MINIMUM $200 fine. There is ONLY ONE sign, and it is very easy to miss, is quite high in the air, looks as if it was intentionally placed that way. You will be clocked as you crest the top of the Belmont Bridge (over the RR tracks). You will not be able to see where the city citizen shakedown agent sits until it is too late. They sit in the parking lot (illegal without owner’s permission) of the closed down “Fuel” boutique gas station that closed in 2007. This is at the corner of Water St and Avon, now (called 9th St).
