Bellows Falls, Vermont Speed Traps
Interstate 91 Exit 5
Exit 5 itself is the perfect trap, nestled in between two hills and, from the southbound side, it’s also around a curve. Also, coming south past exit 5, you go under the first underpass you happen upon (several miles down, currently there are some cones near it) there is a downhill slant. Once you crest the slant (and you’ve sped up because you can see the road ahead and think you’re safe) a crossover in the steepest part of the hill emerges. Again, a perfect trap. Not nearly as popular as around the state line, Exits 7 to 8, and exits 3-4 but still worth watching out for. Drive safe!
State Route 121 near Atkinson Street
When heading West on RT 121 leaving Bellows Falls toward Saxton’s River the road begins to wind almost immediately. As you reach the second bend, by the cemetery, the Windham County Sheriff’s Department has set up a speed trap employing 3 cruisers and 3 officers using LIDAR. They cannot be seen until you turn the bend, then they track your speed, using an officer standing in the roadway.
The officers use the unposted village ordinance speed of 25 mph. The trap is set up just East of the 30mph posted sign.
