Corner of SE 256th Street & SE Wax Rd

Covington, WashingtonMay 21, 20100 Comments

I was caught by a motorcycle cop on a weekday at this corner. He was on 256th street on the east side of SE Wax facing the East. Also, a cop likes to back into the fire station parking lot on the west side of SE Wax.

Highway 18

Common to have multiple car/motorcycle teams using Radar between the Covington Exit, and the Auburn/Black Diamond Road exit, both directions. Common in the AM commute, and early afternoon commute. Beware

Covington Way, just off of Kent Kangley Rd.

As you come off the overpass (1/4 mile before the power station) on Covington Way, there is a cop that frequently likes to hide behind the trees either next to the Domino’s or the woodchip plant on the next street. Going towards Kent Kangley, he’s pretty obvious, but going the other way, he’s almost impossible to see.

148th Ave SE, between SE 240th and SE 256th.

This road has, for many stretches, been knicknamed "Hundred MPH Road", probably due to it’s straight, smooth, and empty characteristics. Speeding has been characterized as a "terrible epidemic" on this street, as the City of Kent (and by complacency, its residents) have blamed several severe DWI/DUI related accidents on speeding. Obviously this fails to recognize that drunks are deadly drivers at any speed. The speed limit rotates between 35 and 40 miles per hour, and officers will wait in the Soos Creek Park entrance for those individuals who come around the corner on to the empty stretch of road above the posted 40 mph speed. With a warning sign suggesting 30mph at the bend, they have been known to ticket for speeds as low as 4 or 5mph over the posted limit.
