State Route 105 near Tokeland Area

Shoalwater, WashingtonApr 24, 20080 Comments

Highway 105 is a rural, two-lane highway with a posted speed limit of 55 mph, except in populated areas where it is reduced to 35 mph. However, as one approaches the Tokeland area, which is on the Shoalwater Bay Reservation, the speed limit is reduced to 45, then 35, then 25, and if you turn off the highway it drops tp 20, then may vary from 25 to 35. Enforcement is dilligent, coordinated, and although polite, unforgiving. One mile over the limit and you might be nailed. There is a casino on the highway, which attracts many people, of course. If a driver watches very closely for the speed limit signs, and stays just below the limits, all is well. There are many signs, however, and they go up and down very frequently, so its a game of not missing any of them, or you lose. Watch very, very carefully, and stay just below the limits, and forget about hurrying. Whatever you do, don’t try and pass anyone until you are off the reservation.
