Highway 287 (Third Street) from I-80 to the Port of Entry

Laramie, WyomingApr 15, 20100 Comments

Southbound on 287, leaving town and driving over the railroad overpass, speed limit is 45, and does not increase to 55 until you get to the bottom of the hill. The path looks wide open, and most drivers naturally start speeding up as they drive down the hill. WHP officers write tickets all day long at the bottom of the hill.

Northbound, in this same section, speed limits are dropping quickly as you approach town. Most drivers don’t yet sense that they are entering the town, so they keep driving fast. WHP writes tickets all day long here too.

30 and 40 mile per hour sign are about 100 apart. Cops work in pairs. If you are over 30 between the signs they will get you. Out of state plate and you are doomed.

South 3rd St. & I-80 Exit Ramp

Laramie, WyomingApr 09, 20100 Comments

Local police park in an obscure parking lot belonging to "The Tack Room" at 1311 South 3rd St., Laramie, WY. They back into the parking lot up against an adjacent building and they’re almost invisible until it’s too late. It’s a block North of the I-80 Exit/Entrance ramp, which is also the intersection for I-80 & HWY 287 South to Ft. Collins, Colorado where the Wyoming HP also have a station located. The speed limit is posted 30 mph and increases to 35 mph just as you approach North side of the I-80 underpass and increases to 45 mph as you travel South and continue onto U.S. 287 South leaving town. Be careful out there!

30th Street near Ivinson Hospital and Gold Course

Laramie, WyomingMar 23, 20100 Comments

The road is wide in this section, built for 40 mph, and drivers naturally speed. Cops are not generally parked there but frequently drive in that zone and will catch you. Lenient up to about 37, but not at 40.

287 between Laramie and Tie Siding

Several cars patrol this 15-mile stretch. They can be at any point along the route, and they pull at least 20 drivers from Colorado every day. Tourists are not immune.
