SB I-5 Center median base of Anderson Grade north of Yreka   Yreka, California

I have NEVER not seen CHP sitting in the media, usually two units, sometimes three. This is an outrageously steep grade, and believe me, you can get up to 80 before you blink your eye. The roadway is in like a canyon, so you cannot see out in front, and it winds back and forth. On the last bend, you come around to a straight stretch, and BAM! there they are, tag teaming and pulling over motorists one after another. Here's the thing. When you are back up about a mile or two toward the top, you can actually see way down the canyon to your right and you will see where the road flattens out. That's where you can see the CHP. They will look small, but believe me, if you think you see what looks like a white top car, you do! Downshift and keep her at 64. Don't give them opportunity to zap you.

INTERSTATE 5   Yreka, California

This ENTIRE area DEFINES "speed trap." It's unbelievable. They cut the speed limit down to 65 from 70 for that 5(?) mile span for the sole purpose of raping people of their money. It's not just southbound-- I got a ticket for going 75 in a 65 two years ago when I was going north (2008). The idiot also went so far as to call backup and search my wallet and car without probable cause. I SHOULD have sued him. They scared the hell out of me-- all for going 75 on the interstate near a tiny town. I didn't have the time for a lawsuit at the time. Honest to god, this area should get statewide exposure for the rape zone that it is. EVERYONE should know.

I-5 south of Anderson Pass, north of Yreka   Yreka, California

Mostly a trap for southbound motorists heading downhill from Anderson Pass towards Yreka after climbing out of the Klamath River canyon. Cops sit hidden in cuts in the median or behind construction equipment on median of I-5. Speed limit is 65, not 70 like most of I-5 in California. It's rare not to see someone pulled over on the southbound side. They also look for northbound traffic speeding up after leaving Yreka.

State Highway 3, Forest Mountain Pass west of Yreka   Yreka, California

There are more cops per mile on Highway 3 between Yreka and Fort Jones than just about anywhere in California, it seems. They look for speeders westbound downhill from Forest Mountain Pass. A lot of pretext stops during the summer season, as well. CHP, Siskiyou county sheriffs.

Hilt just past Oregon/California state line   Yreka, California

Just past the Oregon/California border CHP units sit in the meridian to nail people coming down the 6% grade. It is especially hard to see them at night as they have all lights off, and will drive up behind you without lights on. I was pulled over Labor Day weekend 2009 in this manner. There was no one behind me and suddenly I had headlights and flashers behind me. Also at the bottom of the big hill just north of Yreka there is a wide turnout in the meridian near the bridge over the creek and I have seen CHP units parked there to nail people coming around the turn and down the hill. By the time you see them it is usually too late. It is very hard to see them around dusk also. I just saw one doing this on the 26th of March 2010.
