Oceanview Drive Newport Oregon

Newport, OregonDec 07, 20101 Comments

Just west of Wal Mart on Oceanview Drive. Is a 25mph zone leaving town to the north. Down hill straight going north. Worked by multiple police cars. $200 min. fine. No warnings, just tickets.

South side of the Newport Hwy. 101 bridge.

I cross this bridge everyday. As you are traveling South across the Newport Hwy. 101 bridge it slopes downwards. Most cars will naturally pick up speed on the incline. The speed limit on the bridge is 35 mph. It is fairly easy if you do not brake to increase speed to 40 to 45 mph without accelerating intentionally.

Law enforcement will often park at a turnout immediately after the bridge which cannot be seen as you are coming across the bridge. Sometimes they park on the other side of traffic as well and will hang a u-turn to pursue. Both locations offer them concealment from the unwary traveler. Occasionally they will park on the North end of the bridge at a similar turnout to catch cars heading North. The South end trap is used more often and it is more likely to be used at night than in the daytime, but I have seen it used during both.
