300 block of Josephine Street near 3 rd Avenue

As you are leaving the Cherry Creek (North Shopping District) be aware as you turn right onto Josephine street (heading North) there is a cop on a motorcycle continually pulling motorists over for not obeying the ‘changed speed limit’ due to it being a school zone. I’m all for obeying the posted speed especially in a school zone but the catch here is this: The posted school zone sign is not a flashing sign and is not visible if another driver is beside you on this overcrowded cramped 3 lane street (Josephine St.) The cops know this and that’s why they lie in wait for you. If the cops/city of Denver are so concerned with the safety of the children in a school zone I wonder why they don’t have flashing signs. Poor planning on their part or was that on purpose. We have all ‘flashing’ school zone signs in the Burbs. This allows for motorists to take notice and adjust their speeds accordingly. Most of Denver’s school zone signs do not ‘flash’. Be aware! God help the kid’s in these areas as they are not fully protected.

1st Ave WB after University Blvd

Westbound on 1st Ave a few blocks past University (before the next stoplight), motorcycle cops like to set up on a cross street on the N side. 1st Ave is 3 lanes wide and fairly open traffic generally goes faster than the posted 35mph limit. Cars that got pulled over were all going faster than surrounding traffic – don’t know what the enforcement speed is though. NOTE: I drove from 1st & University to I-25 via Speer (afternoon commute) daily for over a year.
Saw them speed trap that one spot a lot – but never saw a speed trap between there and Auraria on NW-bound Speer. Speer between 1st and Auraria seems relatively unpatrolled, at least in the afternoons.
