Rainier, Washington Speed Traps

As you turn on to 133rd Ave SE from Center Street, 133rd Ave SE has a hill with pretty steep grade with a speed limit of 25mph. About half way up this several hundred foot long hill on the right side, the police sit back off the road hidden by some trees. You cannot see the police car until you’re about even with him as the trees open up. When you are cited the ticket will reference a crossroad (Rainier Acres Rd SE) a few hundred beyond the crest of the hill so it appears that you are speeding in a flat residentail area. This is a speed trap!!

City has strict enforcement of 20 or 25 mph in entire city limits and is exploitive on all. This trap gives impression of being out of city due to underpass. However, this grade requires increase power input to avoid stall and officers sit at top of grade (County Yard). Sign on grade near top increases speed limit, but officer inforce speed up to twenty feet from sign. Court day involved over 20 of of 60 cases from this trap. Small municipality, high fines, mostly out of town tickets as evidence by court appearances.
