Especially in wintertime, in late after noon, the police like to set up a hand held radar to catch speeders leaving the ski area on their wayback to Boulder. The limit there is 25 mph and does not increase to 45 until a block past the post office.

Traffic Circle on 119, nederland, CO.

As you leave the traffic circle, heading east up the hill, the posted speed is 25. Unfortunately, you never see the speed limit sign if you pull out onto the highway from the traffic Circle. The white SUV is hidden and he has his radar gun out, watching. NO talking to them about not seeing the sign. Its a traffic ticket. It seems that this is the only way that the city is able to make some money. At all cost, either stay clear of the city or just drive 25 no matter where you are in the city. What a trap.

City police was "gracious" enough to drop bogus speeding ticket down to "missing headlight" so I didn’t incur points on driver’s license – we were in a stream of traffic all going the same speed and increasing speed as we left town but with an out of state tag…hmmmmm….

State Highway CO 119 near City limit sign

Nederland police tend to wait on the westbound shoulder of CO 119 as it comes up from Boulder Canyon. Their white Ford Exploders are usually hidden from westbound traffic behind the "welcome to Nederland" signage, but visible to eastbound traffic. Weekends are the prime enforcement times, especially for motorcyclists. Once in a while they switch sides to sit at a driveway on the eastbound side.

Off highway 119 to the Eldora Ski Area

No noticeable speed limit signs after turning on to road to ski area. speed limit drops from 40 to 30 with no warning. The sheriff sits at the other side of a hill and as you top the hill, he has radar on you.I got a $90.00 ticket for going 42 in a 30. Forty is even to slow to that point unless it’s snowing or other weather conditions make it hazardous.
