West Brookfield, Massachusetts Speed Traps
Just outside the Rock House Reservation
Just outside the Rock House Reservation on route 9, a cop will sit in between a fence and a tree, making him almost impossible to see at first glance.
Route 9 at the driveway of Rock House State Reservation
Police face west along Route 9, especially after the reservation has closed for the day at dusk. There is a dip in the road which makes it easy for them to hide. They clock in both directions; I was coming eastbound. At the bottom of the hill the speed limit is 50 (I think–it’s hard to remember because MA secondary state highways have NO consistent speed limit) but at the top of the hill, just before the reservation driveway, it drops to 35.
Route 9 in West Brookfield Center
The officer waits in a driveway around the traffic light in the center of town, right near the police station. West Brookfield center is the only stretch of Route 9 between Amherst and Worcester where the speed limit drops from 40-50 down to 30MPH. You will get pulled over for going any faster than 30. Be especially careful on Friday and Saturday nights after midnight.
