Several Speed Traps in Milton

Milton, DelawareOct 09, 20100 Comments

I’ve lived in MIlton for a good while now, so I have had plenty of time to find all the little hiding spots (sometimes the hard way)… Here they are:

1. Cave Neck Rd., about a mile outside of the town limits, just west of Hudson Rd., there are a couple of wide bends in the road. I have seen State boys in both bends at different times, but mainly during the spring & summer months.

2. Further down Cave Neck Road, right at town limits, the speed limit drops QUICKLY from 50 to 45 then, at the fork in the road, to 35. If you don’t find a State or Milton boy there (on your left as you come into town, easy to spot, even from far away), then head another 60 yards or so down the hill. By now the speed limit has dropped to 25, & chances are you will probably find one on your left, hidden back in the entryway to the little water station, or up at the top of the hill, at the intersection of Atlantic & Walnut Streets. They LOVE to break out the laser gun there….

3. A few spots on Mulberry Street; one at the Federal Street intersection (front parking lot of the church), one a little further down, in the parking lot at Wagamon’s Pond, one (sometimes) in an entryway of H.O.B. Elementary, & one more (sometimes) in the parking lot where the Ace Hardware Store is at Mulberry St. & Rt. 16.

4. Union Street, in the cemetary. Milton boys like to hide there from time to time behind the tall trees so anyone headed north on Union St. can’t see them until it’s too late… if at all…

5. Rt. 16 at the little church between Mulberry & Union Streets as well as the intersection of Rt. 16 & Union St. either in the lot at H&R Block or the lot at Food Lion.

6. Rt. 5 in front of Mariner Middle School. Heading into town here, the speed limit drops srtaight from 50 to 35.THIS IS A SCHOOL ZONE, SO DO NOT DRIVE ABOVE THE LIMIT HERE OR YOU WILL GET KNOCKED IN THE HEAD!!!

7. Routes 16 & 1. State boys LOOOOOVE to keep watch over the southbound lanes here, especially in the summer. And the way they hide their vehicle behind the trees, there is NO WAY you can slow down quick enough not to get caught unless you already know they like to sit there.

I know this entry was a bit long, & it may have mentioned spots covered in other entries, but as I said in the beginning, I have lived in Milton for some time now, so I know every little nook & cranny where these cats like to hide. Hope it’s been helpful!!!

Atlantic St & Walnut St

Coming in on Cave Neck Road (turns into Atlantic St in Milton city limits) the speed goes down very fast from 50 to 45 to 35 to 25 and just as you slow down to the posted sign, you can see another sign a few feet ahead. Big speed trap. They like to catch you there by hiding inside Walnut Street.

Broad St & Rd 22

Often just before 16 at the light on 1 Coastal Highway. often one car facing north that was radar and reports to car show knows where heading South toward Rehoboth, Lewes, Dewy. Been caught and seen others. This whole general area is dangerous from above Milford to around Lewes.

State Route 5 near Chestnut Street

On DE 5 out of Milton in front of Mariner Middle School just past Chestnut, they sit in the school driveway. Posted limit is 35. They get you every time doing 50 which you assume it is. (Milton – Sussex County)

State Highway 1 near Just North of State Route 16

They park behind an outcropping of trees just north of the RT 16 traffic light and watch the southbound lane. They are there 3-4 times per week and more so during the summer trying to catch tourists heading south for Rehoboth. It’s usually a motorcycle trooper who is off of his bike and standing on the side of the road with the radar (or laser) gun. So you don’t see him until it’s too late.
