Avon Park, Florida Speed Traps
W College Dr & S Main St
This is one of many locations used by the Highlands County Sheriff’s Department to set up traps on US27 (mainly northbound) on the stretch of highway from the City of Sebring city limits to the City of Avon Park City limits. This stretch of road is not within any local municipality’s jurisdiction and is their favorite hangout because of the wide 6 lane highway, often sparsely travelled, begs drifting over the speed limit.

Highway 64, 2 miles east of US Highway 27 at the junction of CR-17A all the way to Shcool Bus Road. Avon Park Police Department and the Highlands County Sheriffs’ Office both set traps in this rural area that has a 45 to 55 mph speed limit. They regularly park in the orange groves and anywhere else they can hide. The main groups of people targeted by this are Correctional Officers, Military Reservists, and family members of Inmates incarcerated at the Prison on the Avon Park Bombing Range._
