Cottondale Florida   Cottondale, Florida

I travel to PCB frequently so I am very familiar with Cottondale's speed limit going from 65, 55, 45, 35, within a very short distance so I am very careful going through there. Sunday I was pulled over by CPL (Name omitted) and was speechless when he said I was going 55 in a 35. First of all, I would never go 20 over the limit, much less with my trooper husband and 12 yr old in the car. When I asked to see the radar he informed me that he didn't clock me with radar but paced me. To make a long story short, if I was in the 35 zone and he was in the 35 zone, he didn't have adequate time to pace me as I pulled over right past the posted speed limit. I plan to use this as my defense. I had a hunch about CPL (Name omitted) and decided to do an internet search. You guessed it, all sorts of complaints. I have made calls to the police chief, court, and other offices. Not surprisingly, I was told by several people(who wish to remain anonymous) that complaint after complaint comes in on CPL (Name omitted). It's a shame when a bad officer gives such a bad reputation to the dept. However, these types usually end up hanging themselves. If you don't complain, don't contest it, it will continue to happen

HWY 231 just short of AL Line   Cottondale, Florida

In this very flat, 4 lane highway, the speed drops from 65 to 35. I dropped my speed to 35-40 all the way through town. Towards the end of town there are signs indicating the new speed limit of 55 then an increase back to 65. When I saw the 55 mph sign, I started increasing my speed. The officer pulled me over just after the 55 mph sign and gave me a $281 ticket. I politely told the officer that I was out of the 35 mph zone and entering 55 and he said that I was still in the 35 zone when he clocked me even though the 55 mph sign was visible. RIDICULOUS! I don't mind getting a ticket when I deserve it, but this is nothing but a speed trap!

Hwy 231 just short of AL state line   Cottondale, Florida

Speed limit drops quickly from 65 to 45 and (if deputy was being truthful) to 35 as you approach the curve, cop and deputy will be sitting just around the curve (cop already had another vehicle stopped) . Although we were being passed by another vehicle the deputy made sure to get both the motorcycles (mine and the bike following me). Deputy claimed I was doing 57 and other cycle was going 50 even though we were both going under 50.

US Highway 231 South   Cottondale, Florida

There is a cop there that will stop you if you go over the limit one mile per hour. The locals know this but the beach traffic often fall victim all day and night.

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
