Interstate 16 near Mile Marker 117

Bulloch, GeorgiaJan 03, 20070 Comments

I had my cruise control set at 78mph in a 70mph zone with my seat belt on, and had been at this steady speed for at least a half an hour. I was driving through southern Georgia back to my home in Atlanta. The State Patrol officer drove from behind trees in the center median & chased me down. Said that he clocked me at 87mph. Also said I wasn’t wearing a seat belt. Both of these charges were false. I have been allowed to send $180 in the mail for this trumped up charge. All of Bulloch County & Statesboro is a speedtrap area.

US Highway 301 near State Highway 46

Heading North on 301 into Statesboro, right before the yellow light at the 46 intersection. GSP unit hides between bushes in the median, facing southeast. You can see the unit as soon as you come around the curve to the right just before 46, but by then they’ve already tagged you. Best advice: as soon as you see the flashing yellow for 46, slow to 55 (limit) and stay there till past the light. Enforcement seems highest for several weeks after an accident at the intersection, then drops off. Officers will exaggerate violations (e.g., claim that 66 is "15 miles over" rather than 11).
