End of H-1 Freeway/Start of Kalanianaole Hwy-towards Hi Kai

Kahala, HawaiiSep 02, 20110 Comments

Where the H-1 Freeway ends and Kalanianaole Hwy begins the speed limit drops from 50 to 35. Actually, the speed limit drops about 1/4 mile before the end of the freeway. The police wait on the side of the road just past the first stoplight. They are hard to see at night. It’s not so much that this is a speed "trap" as it is that all the speed limits on Oahu’s non-residential Freeways and Highways are ridiculously low and should be raised 15-25 mph. It takes a lot of self control to stay under 50 mph and then drop down to 35 mph on a 3 lane highway, especially at night, when there isn’t even another car in sight. I got ticketed here on a Sunday night/Monday morning at 12:30 am coming home from town. I was the only one on the road, except for the police and another driver getting ticketed.
