Winton, California Speed Traps
Winton Way from Almond to the Atwater city limit
It’s a rural, undivided, four-lane road, with an unreasonably low speed limit of 40 mph. There is usually at least one sheriff sitting in one of the few parking lots along the road, hidden behind a tree or a sign, clocking people. If you can, use Shaffer instead, at least 40 mph on that road is reasonable (and it was set by the City of Atwater, not Merced County, so this is no surprise).
Winton Way between Olive and Santa Fe
Southbound – it changes from 55 to 25. Northbound – it changes from 40 to 25. There is usually a sheriff on that section of Winton Way (where it’s 25) waiting for somebody going at least 26 to pull them over. The part that gets me is how it changes from 55 to 25 so quickly.
