Approximately half a mile from merge, one sign exists “Reduce Speed to 35,” immediately after bend, officers are posted below hill with radar. Be warned, officers will write down 3 signs posted in that area, but that is after the bend and after one reduce speed sign.

Interstate H-1 Ewa bound before Pearl City/Waimalu exit

Aiea, HawaiiJul 21, 20130 Comments

Ewa bound on the H-1 about a 1/2 mile before the Pearl City/Waimalu exit (Exit 10) there will be a HPD solo bike or patrol car parked on the right shoulder before the Ka’ahumanu St. overpass. They are parked in the dimly lit area between two street lights catching drivers with their lasers as they enter the Waimalu viaduct of the H-1. Speed limit in this area is 55 mph but because the Waimalu viaduct heading towards the Pearl City/Waimalu exit is on a down hill slope you can easily do 65+ mph. HPD have been spotted there during night time (around 8 pm) on any given day and especially during late night to early morning (from 11 pm to 4 am). Watch your speed as you pass the Kaonohi St. overpass approaching the down hill Waimalu viaduct on the H-1. It’s difficult to spot them until you’re half way down the viaduct but by then it’s too late.

Where H-3 WEST ends by the stadium.

As you approach the end of H-3 in the West bound direction, the speed limit changes from 55 to 45 MPH. Right after the 45 MPH sign the road curves down and to the right and goes under the H-1 over pass. The motor cycle radar units sit in the deep shade under the overpass…. on both sides of the road.

Kaahele St Under the H1 overpass at Moanalua Rd.

Aiea, HawaiiMar 01, 20100 Comments

Used by HPD on rainy days. Officers are under the overpass, in shadows, and out of the elements. Posted speed is 25. The long downhill coast to that point means that all coming down the hill are speeding. Tolerance is usually 35, but even that is exceeded by most due to the downhill grade.
