The town capitalizes on having the main road to AL/FL beaches run through it and takes in a huge amount of ticket revenues. Not only are tickets always written, the court is run by a martinet with legally mandated “costs” that cannot be waived or modified. Court is packed, chairs insufficient for crowds and the pace of hearings (including drug matters) very tedious. This trap is well known to locals but its main victims are out of towners beachbound.

elberta used to be king about speedtrap city but summerdale i think has passed elberta. speed is strictly enforced and if you get caught with just one beer,-you’re going to jail. not only on hwy 59 but locals know all the backroads. i know alot of police officers and lots of time your attitude goes along way in the officers writing you a ticket or worse.alot of police officers will give you a break. not summerdale!

When you are going on hwy 59 to Gulf Shores you will pass through a small town called Summerdale, the police are always stopping cars in threre speed trap
