83rd Ave. NE/Patico Rd./San Martin Blvd E. of 4th St. No.

83rd. Ave.NE/Patico Rd./ San Martin Blvd (one road with three names) runs from 4th St. No to Gandy Blvd. It’s a short cut. Lately there have been two SPPD motorcycle cops in the area of the turn-off to Weedon Island. Time will tell if this will develop into a speed trap but the potential exists. Use caution through here as the state has installed several new speed limit signs that reduce the speed limit from 35mph to 25mph within a very short distance. The view of the westbound speed limit signs are blocked by overhanging tree branches.

The St Petersburg Police Department runs “school zone operations” in non-compliant (with state or federal standards) speed traps at 40-50 “school zones” in the city. They write 90% of all school zone tickets in the county. They have been advised by a Senator’s office that their school zones are not compliant with state and in some instances federal standards and continue to run “operations” and write tickets which create a large revenue stream for the city. Check out the Florida Department of Motor Vehicle website regarding the ratio of tickets they write compared with other LEOs.

St. Pete police will occasionally “wolfpack” this intersection especially on weekday mornings. No mercy shown. If you see flashing lights as you approach this intersection, slow down.

Possibly a new favorite spot for SPPD to run the cash cow under the false pretense of "safety" or whatever lame excuse they like to put out with a straight face.
