Few speed limit signs; state law assumes 45mph on county roads unless otherwise posted. State troopers spring the traps primarily in rural areas. This reporter was just charged $192 for allegedly driving 61 mph on a rural county road in Elmore County, Alabama

Near Ranchito on 231 South   Wetumpka, Alabama

City has changed speed limit on 231 N/S to 45 mph for road maintenance. One BIG speed trap all the way from Wetumpka to the river bridge going into Montgomery, but this specific one was across the street and before Ranchito on the right heading into Mtgy where construction is going on. I suspect there will be a lot of little 'traps' all the way up and down 231 until everyone gets used to the maintenance that never seems to be occurring.

West Bridge Street (within 1/2 mile of the old bridge)   Wetumpka, Alabama

West Bridge Street (actually old HWY 14) is a four lane with a 30 MPH speed limit and runs through a residential area. Almost all traffic runs comfortably at 45MPH plus. Wetumpka police wait on side streets and in church parking lots. This may be Wetumpka's most lucrative speed trap.
