Ashland/127th/Vermont/Halsted Street

Calumet Park, IllinoisFeb 07, 20060 Comments

Calumet Park is one of the most notorious South Suburbs in terms of traffic enforcement. In fact, they have been known to rank up there with Stone Park in terms of how often drivers get nailed.

Areas to watch out for Cal Park’s finest include Ashland Avenue from 123rd to Vermont. They will sit in the Panozzo Disposal lot or in the Metra Electric Parking lot. After that point, they are liable to sit on the side streets radaring motorists. Between 125th and 127th, they will sit in the parking lot of a small strip mall, the Family Dollar Parking Lot, the Senior Citizens Center Parking Lot, and either of the gas stations at 127th after hours. After 127th, they will sit in the Plaza Hotel lot and a vacant lot near Vermont St. If you think you are safe near the mall at Vermont St., you are dead wrong. They routinely patrol that mall and will sit off to the side on Ashland. On Vermont, they sit around the school on Laflin radaring motorists and will hide on the side streets. On 127th, they will use the gas stations, a church parking lot, and the parking lots of various businesses to radar traffic. Speaking of radar, Calumet Park uses an Instant-On Ka Band Radar.

If you head west of Ashland on 127th St, don’t expect things to get any better for you. The police will use the church lot at 127th and Wood as well as the Metra Lots and the Bowling Alley Parking Lot. In addition, the police will use Winchester Avenue to their advantage in order to radar traffic since parts of Winchester are hidden by a bridge.Calumet Park Police will get assistance from their neighbor, Blue Island, on traffic stops and Blue Island is as bad, if not worse than Calumet Park in terms of Traffic Enforcement.

Currently, they have new black cars that are nearly impossible to see until it’s too late and they are known for sitting lights out in the previously mentioned locations.

These guys give Stone Park a severe run for their money in terms of enforcement. The major difference is that Stone Park will not follow you to your home if you drive a decent car. The areas in Calumet Park to watch out for are the following:

Ashland Avenue – 119th to Broadway. Be especially careful between 123rd and 127th. The cops like to hide in the Metra lot, Panozzo Disposal, the Fire Station, The Senior Citizens’ Center, and Kissel’s Foods. There have been instances where these cops will sit in the apartment complexes as well. They have also been seen sitting in the gas station on the northeast corner of 127th and Ashland.

127th St between Halsted and Winchester: Cal Park is notorious for using the side streets to nail violators. Also, they will hide in some of the other gas stations along 127th, the Catholic Church at 127th & Wood, the Anchor Bowl parking lot, and the Metra lot on 127th and Winchester. Then on top of that, they will sit aside the bridge on 127th and Winchester. Also, the Blue Island cops are known to assist Cal Park on any given occasion and they actually make Stone Park look like choir boys.

Vermont St between Halsted and Paulina. Again, the cops will use the side streets as well as the lots to the hot dog stand on Ashland, the grammar school at Laflin, and Raceway Park near Ashland. Also, they are known to set up shop by the I-57 Overpass.

119th: They use a vacant lot over there to nail motorists. Also, they are known to use the street along side the Metra Tracks.

Marshfield & Paulina. On Marshfield, watch out near the vacant area where the trailer park used to be. On Paulina, watch out after 125th and 127th. After 127th and Paulina, they will nail motorists who use the right lane which is clearly marked for residents of the Townhome development.
