Evergreen Park, Illinois Speed Traps

Please do not take this as anything more than rumor, but I heard it from someone whom I consider reputable and who worked security at Little Company of Mary Hospital. I heard that the LCOM security department apparently has remote cameras, some of which cover California and the series of stop signs between the hospital and the parking lot. If LCOM security sees someone make what they believe to be a rolling stop or feel that someone is speeding, the rumor is that they actively contact EP police with the alleged violator’s vehicle model, color and other identifying information. If this is true, the police don’t even have to see the violator themselves before issuing tickets.

Just when you get used to the possibility that a police car will be lurking in the parking lot of Evergreen Tennis to pounce on someone going over the ridiculously low 20 mph limit, the sneaks will move and hide on the west side of the building near the railroad tracks. Going east on 91st, you’ll see an empty parking lot, think you’re unobserved and get nailed near the tracks.

I consider all of Evergreen Park a speed trap. Stop signs every block, 20 mile an hour limits. Whenever we have visitors I warn them to drive slow and make complete stops. You can’t drive down California between 89th and 95th ever without seeing someone stopped by the police.

A car will sit just off an east-west side street and try to catch rolling stops and speeders.

There is a three way stop right there. The police officer is just east of Central Park about 30 feet off the street. Sits there and gets drivers who do rolling stops.
