On highway 22 between Corsicana and Hilsboro there is a very small town called Mertens with only a blinking light in it. A highway patrol training a rookie cited me the other day for doing 58 in a 45 so they say. I didn’t think there was any way and am still in doubt of it. He said it changed about a half mile from where we were sitting. They were sitting in down town Mertens and he said the limit changed at the city limit sign about a half mile outside of town towards Corsicana. After receiving my lovely citation I drove back out and looked. It had a 55 sign then a 45 sign about 100 yards later which I question if it is even safe to slow down 10 mph in that short of distance. Signs are also on a hill and curve with about 4 signed in between them which makes it harder to recognize. He could have lectured me to slow down and be safe. All he said is you will be receiving a traffic citation today. They will get there $108 and I will have to spend $30 more to take driving coarse and all that good stuff. And to think we pay them thru taxes so they can set you up to get more of your money. I am fine with people getting tickets don’t get me wrong. I don’t believe in purposely setting people up.
