Just outside of town heading East on Hwy 319 towards Utah

Panaca, NevadaApr 14, 20140 Comments

AStay away from Panaca! After turning off Hwy 93 and then heading East on Hwy 319, the town signs are well marked with 25 mph. As you leave town, it appears you are back on the highway (i.e. no paved cross roads, buildings, etc.) but the speed limit is still enforced at 25 mph. It isn’t clear why there are no other posted 25 mph signs outside of the downtown area and in a remote dessert area that would have a 55 mph speed limit if the design was by a highway traffic design engineer. This is a classic speed trap designed for collecting fees and not about public safety. I was tagged at 35 mph. I won’t travel this section of Hwy. I will seek other routes for my trips to Utah because it’s better to support towns that encourage tourism than towns needing speed traps to exist.
