New Palestine, Indiana Speed Traps

Police sit in the parking lot of the gas station close to the Liquor Store. The speed going east from 600W (Mt Comfort Road) drops from 55 mph to 30 mph when you approach the gas station from Mt Comfort Road. Barely have time to slow down from 55 to 30 in the short span.

North of 52 speed limits start at 20 mph, 30 mph and 45 mph from south to north. Cops sit in entrances to housing additions and side streets.

South of 52, cops sit at entrance to sewage plant. Speed limit at that location is 20 mph. Most people driving in that area run 30 mph or faster. Be aware!!

I see cars pulled over all the time. The speed limit is 40 and one tends to drive 55-60, it’s a country road!

New Palestine police will sit along 500 W. (Gem Road) from the train tracks just off of U.S. 52 out to around 300 S. Often can be found at the power station, and in the road shoulders leading into the several housing editions along the way. Favorite spots seem to be the farmhouses on 500 just south of the first entrance to Countryside as one travels north. These areas have plenty of trees. Officers will also wait just inside a housing edition as there are often trees/landscaping buildups to hide the car behind.

Enforcement may be seen often during the AM rush to 52 (especially due to the high school driving traffic), from 2:20PM until 3:00PM or so, right after school has let out for the day, and after dark and/or 9PM through the entire week. Be aware that officers will often tailgate at night in order to try and force you to speed up and then nail you with a ticket. If you’re being followed, it’s a good idea to turn into a housing edition (each has several routes to return to the country roads) and drive very slowly (15mph or so). After dark, under no circumstances, should one speed up much if being tailgated.

Cops sits in the entrance to the school (by the bus parking lot), the entrance to the cemetary, the driveway right before the hill and S curve (going southbound there is a small gravel patch with reflectors right before it, east side of the road right after a steep driveway and cluster of houses on a hill, you can’t see them there if you aren’t looking) and also the farmer’s driveway right before the hill and S curve on the west side of the road. Probably radar, but not sure, could be laser. Limit is 40-45 on Gem and 25 at the school.
